Okay, so I kind of screwed up and accidentally overwrote my first post with my second one. >.> Lazy me thought it would be a good idea to just write my second over this one, copy the code, and create a new post where I could paste it. It seems that's come back to bite me, as I simply forgot to get to the part about 'creating a new post' and absently clicked the "save changes" button. Sorry. .-.

i'm the devil in disguise The city at night was one of his favourite haunts, truth be told.
As night fell and darkness descended over the rest of the Wild lands, the human city, in contrast, seemed to shine even brighter. Like a rare jewel among mere rocks. The strange, glowing things high up in the air would spill a warm, yellow light across the paved and cobbled streets, bright enough for even the night-blind humans to navigate with ease.
But wherever there was light, there would always be shadow. The blinding brightness of those balls of light only served to make the shadows even darker; more sinister and threatening, compared to the brightly-lit dwellings of the man-flesh. They were uneasy, he could tell. The two-legs walked quickly, white eyes darting nervously at every rustle in the bushes, at the howling of the wind. Every now and again their eyes would flash nervously towards the darker alleyways, and their fear-scent would always increase exponentially.
It was utterly beautiful.
Humans in their natural territory, afraid of their own domiciles? Phantasm sneered, his long limbs carrying from forward easily, as he struck to the shadows, despite his stark pelt, careful to keep his face hidden in the gloom. Humans would ignore him if they thought he was just another stray dog - but one look at his face, at his eyes, and they would know that he was no dog, but a full-blooded wolf.
Screaming and yelling would ensue. Chaos would reign, and the sheer thought of it sent a pleasurable shiver down the ghostly apparition's back. Despite the enticing thought, he held himself back. Now was still not yet the time to act. He was not some mindless brute that gave in to his twisted desire - and although his desires often were twisted, he could control himself.
Sometimes.
Phantasm slunk behind a group of humans, their screeching, guttural voices hurting the male's sensitive ears. Licking his chops in anticipation, the ghostly wolf lashed his tail once, straightening up to his full height. Tail and chin lifted in dominance, he made sure to bristle fiercely, lips pulling back to reveal a long row of dripping, shining ivories. Muzzle wrinkled, he growled, low, long and deep in his throat, feeling the sound rumble within his chest.
Vermilion eyes glinted in the low light, and he stepped forward a little. Through narrowed eyes, he saw the humans freeze, startled, then the fear-scent bloomed, sweet and succulent upon his tongue. He growled once more, prowling forward like a hunter towards his prey.
The darkness seemed the shift behind the ghostly brute, as his pale pelt all but shimmered in the darkness. The humans turned as one, their eyes instantly latching upon his growling, snarling form. They froze once more, like startled deer - and how pleasure seeped through him at that thought - before one of them screamed.
The wolf hid a wince. The female's voice was high and shrill, and very hurtful to his ears. With a snap of his jaws, he lunged forward, tail lashing eagerly behind him. They fled.
Phantasm chased them down, all the way through the deserted town, before he eventually tired of the sport and melted away into the gloom. The wolf paused, panting a little at the run, ruby eyes glittering curiously as he glanced around. He hadn't been to this part of the town before - it was obviously very run-down. Smashed windows, broken doors - he huffed, shaking himself briskly.
Humans. They broke everything they had.
Sharp ears stood to attention, flicking forward at the sound of a voice. Female, probably a dog, from her accent - no Wild-born sounded like that - but her sharp, dry tone piqued his interest. Slowly, he prowled forward, a specter in the dark. Paws fell noiselessly upon the cobblestones, and he paused at seeing a German Shepard.
"Talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, you know," Phantasm said conversationally, voice seemingly appearing from nowhere, as he stood at the mouth of the alley. The powerfully-built wolf studied her, the thin frame, the hunted expression that all the street dogs seemed to wear.
Phantasm moved closer, eyes glinting sharply, as a feral smile crossed his face.

Screaming. It stopped the young shepherd stopped in her tracks. Her head shot up toward the sound, ears alert and searching for the source of that horrendously ear-splitting screech. Fawn almost felt as if she should bury her head into her paws with some feeble attempt to hide from such a noise. Even so, it came from afar -- at a distance that could easily be dismissed, yet so odd an occurrence at this time that mere curiosity more so than caution drove her to listen for an answer.
Pat pat. Pat pat pat pat pat pat.
Canine. She gauged, keeping frozen in place as to not alert it to her presence. A moment passed before she finally caught the dog under the poor lighting. Correction -- wolf. Oh hell, could it get any worse? "Well, I suppose I can cross this off my list of extraordinary encounters." She muttered grimly to herself. She could hear her own heart threatening to burst out of her rib cage should it have pumped any harder. Oh how she hoped to God the wolf couldn't too.
"Talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, you know,"
He had already seen her. Damn! She ducked into the lesser light at her back in pathetic hopes that she would have better means of escaping. Fawn cast a short glance behind her. Nope. Apparently not. Not unless one could walk through solid wall. She gave a thick swallow and flattened her ears, carefully reading his body language as he strode forward, frankly unable to move from her hunched position. Predatory. Malicious. Her mind flashed. Oh yes, no sh*t, Sherdog. Ugh, how she hated that chiding voice in her head.
"And -- And I suppose you'd know, a creature like yourself." She spoke with a trembling voice. Yet again, damn her cowardice. It made her seem so weak in the face of others, so fragile. Not exactly a key trait one would find in your average street mongrel, and she loathed herself for it. But beneath all the fear that rushed through her veins like electricity, something urged her to prove herself to this creature. So she met his gaze with that of her own, a challenging glint in her eyes. "It must be lonely."

i'm the devil in disguise There were two particular events that needed to occur before Phantasm considered a day to be a good one.
One - he must have found, and successfully harassed a human.
Two - he must have found, and successfully harassed a fellow canine.
As his bloody eyes found the female standing in a dirty, foul-smelling alleyway just off the main town square, Phantasm felt a rare, genuine smile curve upon his lips. Instead of making him look handsome - well, let's put it this way: Phantasm's practiced smiles looked charming enough to melt any living creature. His genuine ones, however, just looked deranged. As though he were thinking of sinking his fangs into fresh meat, with the metallic smell of blood in his nostrils.
Well, he mused, staring as the femme attempted a truly pathetic attempt at retreating, stopping only when she realised that there was a solid wall behind her and that, yes, she could not walk through walls yet. Although that was a skill Phantasm would dearly love to learn, should the few ghosts around town feel emboldened to share their secrets with him.
Vermilion eyes gleamed with surprise, before a veil swept of the rubies, leaving behind a black, cold slate when they rose once more. Interesting, the mutt actually had the courage to speak back. Normally, when dogs tried to run and found they couldn't, they would cower and beg, with breaking, thin voices, not to hurt them, to let them go.
Corwards, the lot of them.
Phantasm leaned forward eagerly, prowling even closer. He could see the change in her, when she pushed away her annoying, useless instincts to submit, choosing instead to stand up to him, even though she had all the marks and breeding of a kept dog.
A leash-licker.
What was one of them doing out in the streets? Should she not be home with her humans, following them about like an adoring slave?
"Well, I wouldn't know," Phantasm drawled, starting to circle her with slow, sure steps. His head was low, and he looked at the German Shepard with cunning eyes. "I am one of a kind. But at least I don't speak to myself aloud. Something you desperately want to get off your chest, dear? How about why a little pet like you is doing out on the big, bad streets all one her lonesome?"
His voice had dipped to a growl by the end of his little soliloquy, and he stood directly in front of the dog, forcing her to meet his intent, unnatural gaze.

ooc; yo, saph. (bear with me here, i'm an idiot) i was just looking over this post and suddenly thought it seemed rather beyond fawn's character (i'm just so used to writing proud and sassy charries cx), so i changed things around a bit. i hope you don't mind.
Fawn felt her body quiver as the male responded, for reasons entirely different from the abnormally cold weather just outside. His voice washed over her like that of a snake charmer until it descended into little more than a rumbling growl at each end while he slowly advanced around her. It was unnatural for a canine, for all she'd known at least, to have such a strange and devious air about him. That which assumed he held the ability to gain one's trust yet snap one in two with nothing more than a change of heart. One of a kind indeed. Then again, he was a wolf. "Something you desperately want to get off your chest, dear? How about why a little pet like you is doing out on the big, bad streets all on her lonesome?"
Her stomach twisted. She fought to swallow down what felt like the last of any bile she had left. Pet, he called her . She could remember the last time she'd been called something of the like -- yet, that was quite the long time ago. Years even, when she'd first run from her master scared and starving to death with chains dangling off her scrawny neck. But... What on earth would make him think that? She questioned silently, almost feeling the need to look herself over in the reflection of a nearby hubcap that lay only a few yards across from her. Then again, she thought once more, he is a wolf. Who knew if he thought all dogs were slaves to humanity? "What do you mean?" She asked, her chest leaping even still as she met the creature's gaze with a soft snort. Conceal your fear and he won't sense it; keep it hidden and you'll be fine. "Am I not rouge-ish enough for you? Or have the big, bad streets robbed you of your sense of perception as well as your sight?"

i'm the devil in disguise Phantasm tilted his head, eyes inquiring as he watched with a deep, dark, twisted delight, the female's sudden jerk and sickened expression. Ah, there it was! He had sensed it from the beginning, an inkling that he crawled into the demon's mind, nudging the well-oiled cogs there until he had worked it out.
Rapt, vermilion eyes watched as she seemed the struggle with herself, fighting an internal battle that his words had caused. Her eyes flicked to something behind him, and the ghostly wolf had to resist the urge to turn around in curiosity, knowing that doing so would break the spell of fear that his very presence had seemed to infuse in her.
A low, dense fog from the sea had crept in, and Phantasm turned his head slightly. Nose to the air, his keen, lupine senses cast tendrils out, checking his surroundings instinctively for danger. It was not only humans that were under that category. No, there were other canines that were baying for his blood.
Including that rather rude she-Alpha, Tribute. He wouldn't put it past her to pounce on him from behind. Not that she knew Phantasm was the new Alpha of Iustitia. The Pack kept itself tightly bound in secrecy, and word would not get out until the deathly brute was ready.
His crimson rubies snapped to her instantly, as he smiled, baring gleaming fangs ferally.
"My dear," he started conversationally, prowling ever-closer, long, white tail swaying with every step he took. He leaned closer and closer, until their pelts brushed, the musky scent rolling off the wolf in waves of fire and ice and all the wild places of the night. Muzzle to one trembling ear, he laughed softly, murmuring in a low baritone, "You positively reek of it."
She didn't actually. But, Phantasm mused as he pulled away, she didn't have to know that.
"Dar-ling," Phantasm all but purred, delighting in the nonplussed, lost air that the female seemed so determined to hide. "You don't need to act so tough. I can keep a secret; it will be our little secret."
Phantasm pulled away, coiling around in a circle so that the very tip of his long tail just brushed his mouth, the human signal for silence, and winking, scarlet rubies gleaming lazily in the darkness.

Fawn's eyes were drawn to the wolf's curling muzzle. As she expected, he had long, beautiful canines and jaws that could tear the skin off a dog strip by strip in less than a minute (which she strongly suspected he did daily simply for dental hygiene). Her breath hitched when the brute chuckled and pressed closer to give a gentle snarl in her ear. "My dear," He hissed, "You positively reek of it."
She winced, both out of fear and embarrassment in herself. Was she really that bad at hiding it? She was so sure... It didn't matter. She would not make the same mistake she had with the (thankfully) friendly shepherd she'd met at the lake; where she'd been too busy fretting to make her escape. No, what mattered now was keeping this mouthy creature just so: talking. Yes, it was clever enough a plan to impress any old street-mongrel. If she could only fool herself into thinking she was confident and fearless enough to face the giant dog. She was smarter -- quicker, than this wolf, who seemed to have sought only to impose upon the weak for a good time. "Dar-ling..." The conspiring shepherd kept quiet as the male drawled on. "You don't need to act so tough. I can keep a secret; it will be our little secret."
Fawn shivered once again, this time in disgust for the wolf's sadistic sense of what he thought was humor. She felt sick as she searched for a response that would suit his gut-wrenching interests. "Oh, don't bother, dear. With a mouth like that I'm sure it'll be all over town by sunup." She moaned dramatically, backing up her perhaps over-theatrical tone with a swish of her tail. She needed to sell it. "And there's no doubt your sickly counterparts will enjoy this little tale, too." Fawn almost giggled at her strange behavior. Yes, she could definitely get the hang of this.

i'm the devil in disguise Phantasm's long, beautiful tail swayed silently from side to side, looking strangely akin to a pendulum in its rhythmic movements. His pants came, hot and heavy, eager to delve deeper, into the darker parts within the femme, to twist the parts of her psyche yet uncorrupted by this cruel, cruel world.
Sensitive ears caught the brief hitch of breath, and the ghostly brute's eyes flashed in morbid satisfaction. He pawed a little at the hard, strange terrain, eager to know her response.
An almost honest laugh was startled out of Phantasm at her words, crimson eyes flashing in approval.
"Are you saying I can't keep a secret?" the white wolf asked her, amused, tone airy and light. He moved closer again, eyes narrowing, before darting away a little.
"Almost there, dearie," he coached, careful to keep his tone patronising. "Just a little more... a little more... you, would do it. Could almost scare off the big, bad wolf!"

Fawn felt sick. Again. It was simply frightening how easy it was for the wolf to play at her strings, as if he was born to do so. Of course, there was always the possibility he did this for a living -- preying off one's fear, toying with them to feed whatever vile desires he had in mind. It was almost an art to admire, had she not been the target of it this very night. She kept herself from jolting at the male's strange elation.
"Said something funny, have I?" She questioned, careful to add a hint of a smile into her tone.
"Are you saying I can't keep a secret?" Ah. She'd almost forgotten she was the bottom in this conversation. He would quite naturally be amused at her response.
"You don't seem the type, no." The reply was swift, but bore little substance to it as she cautiously shifted a few steps. Mahogany eyes shot to the beacon of hope that was the exit. And back again. Just a bit farther. Her skin scrawled whilst the wolf spoke once more. He moved closer. Dangerously close. Perfectly close. Close enough for her to have reason to take another step back and effectively be in just the right position to make her escape.
"Oh? I'm positively quaking, your highness." A forced scoff of mocking disdain followed her words -- her confidence was a lie, obviously, but she had to keeping his mouth running, correct? Fawn spared another glance at the entrance behind her, sure to mask it as a simple eye roll. Until she realized something. She couldn't escape, not without being caught from behind. As fast as she might have been, this wolf had long, slender legs supporting his more muscular frame, those of which could carry him much faster in this particular setting. Yet, out of the narrow, she was swifter of foot, she could weave and duck into places a wolf wouldn't dream of bothering with.
"Shall we?" She intoned with a cock of her head.
