This pack uses a modified pack system that is based off of a typical wolf pack. Each rank is considered equal, but the alphas are still the highest rank, and can make decisions affecting the entire pack. All ranks feed at the same time; there is no feeding order. All pack members may have pups, but only if they have been bonded with their partner via a ritual.
Alphas
There is one alpha male and one alpha female, both equal in terms of rank. Alphas make important pack decisions and can order their pack to do certain tasks (order a hunt, order patrols, etc.). Alphas are considered the most influential wolves with the purest of hearts; no suspicions will be found with the alphas. Alphas are in charge of pack rituals for births, new pairs, and initiating new pack members (in which case the alphas will work with the shamans).
Hunting Chief
The Hunting Chief is the top hunter, and this rank must be earned by a hunter and bestowed upon said hunter by the alphas. The Hunting Chief is in charge of choosing hunting locations, picking prey, and giving orders to the Hunters. Hunters must obey the Chief's commands during a hunt, and if they do not, it is up to the Chief to decide their punishment.
Hunters
Hunters are an unlimited rank, with many younger canines joining the hunting parties once they've become old enough. Hunters supply the pack with food, and they are in charge of transporting carcasses from the hunting grounds to the pack dens. Hunters are lower than the Hunting Chief, and must follow his or her orders as instructed.
Lead Shaman
The Lead Shaman, like the Hunting Chief, is a rank bestowed upon the eldest Shaman. The Lead Shaman is in charge of leading rituals and teaching the Shamans what he or she knows. If the Lead Shaman passes away, the next eldest Shaman will take their place.
Shamans
Shamans are an unlimited rank like the Hunters, and are in charge of assisting the Lead Shaman during rituals. They are also expected to teach pups the beliefs and ways of the gods. Shamans help prepare materials and wolves for rituals (applying paint where needed, cooking, preparing herbs, etc.).
Lead Healer
The Lead Healer is a rank bestowed upon the eldest Healer. Lead Healers tend to the most important injuries and illnesses, while Healers tend to minor injuries and illnesses. Lead Healers have much more experience, and are often the one to tend to the dying canine and the birthing female. The Lead Healer may work with the Lead Shaman to perform a healing ritual, or may consult the Shamans to help create salves infused with certain herbs used in rituals. Lead Healers need to have an extensive knowledge of herbs.
Healers
Healers are another unlimited rank, and they tend to minor injuries and illnesses. Healers gather herbs to use in healing salves and other mixtures, and are taught by the Lead Healer. Healers may work with the Shamans to create and perform healing rituals.
Warrior Chief
The Warrior Chief is a rank bestowed upon the strongest Warrior, regardless of age. Chief Warriors can command the Warriors in battle or command scouting/guarding. This rank is highly sought after, and can be challenged by a Warrior. In which case, the Warrior Chief must fight the Warrior, and the winning canine will be promoted to Warrior. There may only be one fight per moon cycle (month), however.
Warriors
Warriors are an unlimited rank, and they are the fighters of the pack. They are called upon during times of war or danger, and may be sent on scouting and guarding runs. Warriors are trained by the Warrior Chief, and may challenge the Chief for his or her position (read under Warrior Chief for challenging details).
Caretakers
There are a maximum of two Caretakers. Caretakers teach and care for growing pups when their mother or father cannot. They are in charge of teaching them basic skills like hunting, feeding, climbing, etc. Caretakers also help guide pups into their wanted rank (Healer, Warrior, etc.). Caretakers are in charge of any pups that are left unsupervised.
