Duane's paws moved easily as he made his way along the beach. the border collie's green eyes scanned around looking for any signs of movement. his ears raised, acoustics cupping any faint noise that might come to them. his lower jaw dropped, salmon pink tongue lolling out and resting over his bottom two canines as he panted. the weather was crisp and beautiful and he loved the spring weather. the beach was quiet as he inhaled deeply. the air smelled of brine and the ocean waves gently crashed agains the shoreline. sea gulls dive bombed the surface of the water grabbing fish that had come to the surface.
he paused a moment and continued on. he found a shady spot and parked his hindquarters down; knees turned outwards; forelegs keeping his upper body erect. he sat there staring at the beach as he waited to see if anyone would come along here. he also made a mental note to dive into the water to wash any of the grains of sand that might've gotten into certain places it shouldn't have. he raised his ears again and listened to the soft noises.
The weather was totally wonderful and the ivory shepherd dog really liked it when she was out in the sunshine. Born on the street when her mother was dumped by their owner when she was pregnant, Bayleigh never met any humans. Her mother and siblings were caught by the dog catcher but Bayleigh remained on the streets, avoiding the humans much as she could. She didn't care either, she survived on her own by gumming in the trash cans or dumpsters when the humans were fast sleep.
Her bright blue eyes looked around as she headed to a new place a place where she haven;t been. The shepherd female was curious how the terrine was able to hit her paws and played inside the pad as well. She barked playfully, while her tail curled with happiness as she was happy. Bayleigh didn't know there was another canine in the place, since she never met another canine before, she picked up a stick which was discarded on the shoreline, and started to playfully threw it around, as she lied down panting as she rested while the sun shone brightly onto her back
Duane's head rotated around to see a white german shepherd female. he arched an eyebrow at her but watched as she tossed a discarded stick around. she seemed friendly and lively, which was something he coudn't say about the female he'd met earlier. he approached the female and plopped down in front of her, but keeping a safe distance from her at the same time but not wanting to invade her personal bubble.
"I see your enjoying yourself," he said lightly grinning at her broadly.
hopefully this one wasn't a smart ass and bossy like the she wolf earlier. it still irked him. he hated females like that.
"It's nice out isn't it?" Duane Barry asked her keeping a friendly grin on his face. he was civil and nice for the most part of course but if a female thought she owned him and made him feel inadquate, well thats where he drew the line.
The young ivory shepherd was focusing on the sand which was everywhere. She was very young and never known this kind of terrine to existed before, and she was really shocked as well. She wagged her tail aggressively against the sand dune, until her pure blue eyes caught the sight of the other dog. She watched him curiously as she was shy, but she didn't know she would be able to trust him or not. Her heart was racing like mad and she panted some more, while she was thinking of the words to say.
So far he was sweet, gentle and very loyal kind of canine. She tilted her head to the side and wagged her tail some more. "Nice too meet you Duane... My name is Bayleigh, have you been on the streets long?", She asked him since she was born on the streets. She never knew what it was like to have someone to pet you, play with you or a warm building to sleep every night.
"Yeah, it so lovely out here... I love the sunshine, how about you?" She asked him and looked at him, wagging her tail. "So why have you come here then Duane?" She sat down and then waited for his reply back.
Duane smiled at Bayleigh and dipped his head in respect.
"Hello there miss," he grunted. "It's nice to meet you, miss Bayleigh. Have you ever been to the beach before?" he asked her noting her behavior around the sand. perhaps she's not used to this kind of beach or anything. he watched her curiously. a gentle spring breeze caught his fur and ruffled it in several places.
"well," he grunted. "Do you have a male near by here? this isn't the most safest place to be miss. There are dangerous things lurking around."
he was thinking of course of the experimentals and the other dogs that the humans tested and failed. the humans clearly wanted to cover up their mistakes....and it was innocent canines that paid the price. it was maddening. he shook his head clearing his mind of these thoughts as he waited for bayleigh to reply.
Her salmon tongue was overhanging from her lower jaw as she was panted softly some more. Her blue eyes was watching the collie dog, he was really interesting guy. Normally she would be very shy and wouldn't speak to anyone. But this canine was different, like they connected together like bread and butter. Her white fur blew gently as the breeze went into different direction.
"This is in fact my first time on the beach, and the sandy terrine is really fasticasting, do you agree sir?" She asked extictly, as she kept her stomach onto the salty terrine, as her black nostrils were breathing in the scent. She slowly got up and stretched more as she heard his voice again. "I never had a male... I survived on the streets since I was ten weeks old, and I am now two years old.... I don't need some male protecting me", she spoke proudly.
"Miss, you most certainly do need a male protecting you," he groused. "There are a lot of unsavory characters around here, and a few packs that aren't good. If they met you they'd take advantage of you in a heart beat and let me tell you, lady, you wouldn't win or get out a alive. don't be foolish and proud."
he grunted grumpily.
"But a beach is a beach. I've seen them before," he said. "if ye'd like, you can come take a walk with me along it. i'll show you around a bit."
the border collie got to his feet and padded a few paces before stopping and craning his head around to look back at the alabaster female. his green eyes watched her and waited patiently for her to continue. he'd show her around a bit. he knew some of the safest places in the city. there were just some places you didn't go ...not if you valued your life.
Bayleigh just simple followed the collie male. She wasn't sure what his statement meant though, and quiet frankly she didn't really cared about it. She just wanted to be around another canine, since being alone wasn't fun. She quickly trotted towards his side, while her tail was kept medium low around her hocks.
"I don't need males kind sir... You think I am weak, I have long legs and they are great for running away from danger. I have been avoid dog catchers all my life, so do you think some stupid mutts would be able to fool me?" Bayleigh looked at him in the eye, waiting to see what he would do or say back.
"Where are we going anyway?" She asked him, as she easily kept up to him, showing her agility was excellent and she wasn't weak or get tired easily. "So tell me how long have you been on the streets?" She asked him, since he was the one who said everything was all mighty and dangerous.
