i took the midnight train going anywhere
Her short, stumpy tail, customary of her breed, wagged ferociously.
Kora slumped down in the soft, downy sand, uncaring of the small grains that wiggled their way into the depths of her from fur. She'd dug a little hole - it was easy, with all the loose, fine sand - just big enough to fit her as she curled up snugly within. Kora had managed to snuggle herself into the shallow dip, hind legs tucked securely beneath her, front legs touching her hind ones.
A heavy sigh escaped her, as she rested her delicate muzzle upon the rim of the dip. Long, silky ears splayed next to her, as her contented eyes gazed out upon the ocean.
Though Kora heart was beating ferociously and her flanks heaving from the exertion, she couldn't bring herself to regret the long journey from town, where she usually spent the night. Here, this far away, the smog and pollution of the city air was but a distant memory. The fresh, ocean freeze blew the scent of salt and water towards her, and the gentle, lapping of the waves lulled her to a light doze.
Bright sunshine shone down upon the curled dog, warming her brown pelt and illuminating it gently, bringing out hints of honey and gold. It had recovered some of its previous glossiness, Kora was glad to say. And while she was hardly fully recovered from her stint in the labs - far from it, in fact - at least she had showed some improvement.
A lot, actually considering that she had been near death just a moon ago, where the strange, pharaoh hound had found her and helped nurse her back to health.
So, yes, she was content.
However, as always, Kora could not help but keenly feel the absence of warm fur and body beside her. Maybe she was too needy, as others used to tell her. Maybe she was just being difficult and selfish. After all, she was sure that others had much better, more important things to do than to accompany her and watch the sunset.
