The day dawned cool and bright. The sky appeared blank, with nary a cloud in sight. A perfect day for an in-city patrol. The humans took him from his kennel just after the sun began to rise. His morning meal - a measured amount of food and water - were deposited into the two large metal bowls located near the entrance. He ate at a moderate pace. Eating too fast at his size could cause a number of medical conditions, and Khan did not desire to waste time convalescing. After consuming the entire bowl, he drank the entire bowl. It was, just as he predicted, just enough to wash down his meal. A leash was clipped to the collar he wore while in the facility. Khan followed them down the hall, his long, leisurely stride almost forcing them to jog just to keep him from moving ahead. It had been far too long - a solid week - since he had been sent out on patrol.
When they arrived at the exit, the collar was removed and put on a labelled hook beside the door. He would return through this same door later in the day, at which time the same collar and leash would be put back on. He waited a few seconds for his handler to open the door but they didn't so much as move to do it. He glanced up at her, tilting his head to one side ever so slightly as if to ask her why not. The answer came moments later. The click of nails on the polished tile made his head turn. Another dog was coming down the hall. Black and white coat, appearing to be of similar breeding to him. His sea-green eyes narrowed. He had received training for both solo and partnered patrols, just as every Lux did during the training program. However, he had never actually been partnered up before.

Sin had been recently moved to a new department of protection. The handler had leashed her with a thick chain, she was known to be too strong. Long legs had trouble slowing enough in her walk to not drag him along with her. They passed many kennels and through many doors, before she rounded a corner and there he was. This was her partner, the one the humans had been speaking of the day before. Waving her banner, she watched him with her brown eyes, a smile on her maw.
Her handler was speaking to his about how he wasn't sure she was ready to be off leash yet. His handler yanked the leash out of his uncertain hands and undid her collar. Cocking her head, she smiled at the male before her.
Hello. I am Sinestriss, call me Sin. Whom might you be?
Her voice was melodic, almost as If spoken by a angel. It slid across her tongue so effortlessly.

A rookie. They had saddled him with some rookie. Judging by the argument that their handlers were having, one that hadn't even been allowed to go out off-leash yet. His eyes remained expressionless, but the corners of his mouth curled upward ever so slightly in a sneer. That her handler did not seem to trust her degraded the other canine in his eyes. A lack of trust meant that they were unsure of her obedience, her ability to remember her orders and her training and to act on both. Lux or not, Khan Noonien Singh had little tolerance for incompetence. He would mock, berate, bully with the unsympathetic, cold attitude that carried over into most all of his interactions. The sneer was gone in the blink of an eye, fading with the same speed as most of Khan's other expressions did. He doubted that the female had even seen it. She smiled at him and wagged her tail, attempting to appear friendly he supposed. Khan responded with a neutral, almost bored looking expression. His eyes flickered briefly away from her face, watching as the chain was taken forcefully from the other handler's hands.
Hello. I am Sinestriss, call me Sin. Whom might you be?
Her voice was smooth and melodic, pleasant to the ear. For some reason the husky came into his mind then, though their voices sounded nothing alike. His eyes shifted away from Sinestriss and to the door before them. "Khan Noonien Singh." His voice was a low, resonating purr, an accent of some sort apparent but hard to place. She had not recognized him, but perhaps the name would ring a bell. His handler moved to open the door and he began walking forward, not even sparing his partner a glance.
(ooc: Khan's voice for future reference. Aww yis, Benedict Cumberbatch.)

Sin could tell he didn't like her already and it upset her. Sneering at his back as he turned around, she trotted forward and followed him out the door. It was a hot day, but she didn't care honestly. Sinestriss knew she had to prove that she knew her stuff. Pausing, she looked back as her handler called her name. Audits perked as she listened. He was telling her to behave and to come back. Turning back around, she walked down the sidewalk, not caring if the male followed. Her steps were light and carefree as she kept her eyes in front of her. The male didn't like her, so why should she even act like she liked him?
Little kids ran around town square, screeching and jumping with excitement. A smile ran on her maw as she kept watch over them. Her body was ready to protect that which protected her. Then it happened, the screeching of tires beside her, the yells of the mothers. Whipping her head around, she saw a little girl running toward the road, and she didn't hesitate. A snarl escaped her as she sprinted through the square, she leaped over benches and trash cans. The kid was just taking her first step into the road, when she reached her and bit into her shirt. With a quick jerk, she had the little girl away from the road and into the grass. Sin was panting for breath and wasn't even prepared for the mother to hug her. Sin froze for a minute before waving her banner and allowing the human to thank her multiple times.
Sin turned to the male with a sneer, proving she knew what the hell she was doing. Walking to him, she spoke.
Don't judge a dog by its handler.
with those words, she continued walking.

Khan walked smoothly alongside her, taking one step for every two of hers. She seemed bound and determined not to acknowledge his presence, keeping her eyes and ears focused on the sidewalk. He resisted the urge to smirk. Oh, how cute. The little girl was upset that he hadn't take an immediate liking to her. This would be something to remember, to store for later when they weren't on patrol. The dog liked to keep a mental file on all dogs he came into contact with - those that he did not kill immediately, at least - so that he could keep track of their weaknesses, their strengths, what they loved, what irritated the piss out of them, and so on. It gave him more ammunition, so to speak, to use against them when it came to verbal or physical blows. He would make sure to bring this moment later and test to see if it was his attitude or simply his presence that bothered her more. Right now he would do his best to behave; fooling around on patrol wasn't something he was keen on doing.
Children were playing in and around the town square, screaming happily as they ran, romped about, and generally drove their mothers insane. A normal dog might have drawn a parallel between the human children's play and that of puppies, but Khan did not. He had no such memories of his litter mates. Like most Luxes, they had been separated moments after birth to be hand-raised by their future handlers. This was done to avoid forming bonds between family members, the scientists and trainers over the facility ever overly paranoid that the dogs might develop a pack mentality and become out of control.
He glanced at Sinestriss out of the corner of his eye, saw her smile. A fellow canine would accept the gesture as a friendly one, but to a human, a dog's smile looked a bit much like a snarl for comfort. He supposed it was the sight of it, coupled with their size and proximity, that must have motivated the child to move into the road. He could think of no other explanation; any child that played her with any sort of regularity would know not to do something so unbelievably stupid. He decided to allow Sin to pay for this error by continuing to walk forward, even as the tires screeched and the adults began screaming. It was not his job to save their children from themselves. He had been trained to deal with stray and feral dogs, not pull kids out of oncoming traffic or save babies from burning buildings.
When he heard the fearful vocalizations stop, quickly followed by profuse thanks and sobs of relief, Khan drew the conclusion that Sin had taken it upon herself to attempt to save the child and had succeeded. He almost rolled his eyes. Good for her. Not only had she wasted valuable energy, she had risked getting injured or killed performing an unnecessary act of heroism. He maintained his graceful stride, neither speeding up nor slowing down. The other Lux could catch up to him, but Khan was perfectly content with leaving her behind. She did not require his companionship to be safe, being of similar size and shape and having likely received similar training, and he trusted that, if they got separated, she could get back to the facility without needing him to hold her paw. He felt a small twinge of annoyance when he heard pawsteps on the concrete behind him.
Don't judge a dog by its handler. A sneer curled her lips. Khan allowed a flicker of the distaste he felt for her to show in his sea-green eyes. He remained cool and calm as he replied, never breaking stride. She seemed to be trying to leave him in her dust, but the long-legged male kept up just fine.
"Of course not," he replied, just a hint of ice in his voice. Otherwise his tone was eerily calm, his attention never straying from the path ahead. Looking at her would only encourage her. "Not only have you wasted time and energy on an unnecessary act of heroism, you risked getting injured or killed doing something you had no business doing. We are here to control and protect the humans from the feral population, not to save them from themselves. It is also highly likely that your smiling, which resembles a snarl to most humans and is an expression you were supposedly trained to suppress, coupled with our unusual size, athletic build, and close proximity, was what motivated the child to move into the road. Your handler wasn't in charge of training you, nor are they currently in charge of directing your actions."
(ooc: ...it may take a bit to win him over ^^')

Sin couldn't believe her audits as he scolded her for saving the human. Frowning, she thought she had done the right thing. She took the criticism to heart, and shut up, walking ahead of him. She was newly trained, picked up as a stray, not that he'd know that.
I am not like you, brute. Most luxes are born and raised to be like that. You're a machine bred for the humans will. I am not. I was not bred to be a Luxes, but I was found when I was 3 months old. I was dumped outside the kennels, and here I am today. I wasn't taught this way of life from the moment I was taken from my mothers womb. I take your criticism to heart, go ahead, scold me for not watching a poor child die, at least I am not a heartless brute like you.
Sin didn't even look at him the whole time, simply crossed a street, and kept walking. Honestly she didn't care if he was even following, she didn't need him to be there with her. Looking ahead, there were a couple strays eating out of the garbage, but they weren't hurting the humans. Walking past, she rounded a corner, and ran right into the ugliest dog in the world. He was drooling, and had dirt and mud all over him. Looking him over, she straightened her spine, a "I don't play" tone coating her velvet voice.
Watch where you are going. Moves like that get you killed.
Of course, she was warning him, and it was a mistake. Like lightning, he was leaping for her, but he didn't even touch her. It was as if someone was playing it in slow motion. His canines went for her shoulder, giving her room to latch her oversized jaws onto his neck, and with one quick bite, he laid limp in her jaws. Dropping him, she grabbed his scruff, literally carrying him to a dumpster and throwing him in. Couldn't leave dead ferals laying on the streets. Not even looking for the other male, she walked out, noticing everyone staring at her. She had blood dripping down her maw and she left it. It added a good touch to her look.
(OOC: Same here hah)

His ears, cropped to a long, sharp point, twitched. The fur along his spine looked a little more raised than it had a moment ago. The insult did not bother him - he had heard much, much worse from those he hunted and had grown used to it. It was the fact that she did not seem to grasp what he was saying that was irritating him. True, there had been the intent to insult in his words, but Khan also meant to tell her exactly what she had been doing wrong to avoid her pulling such a stunt again in the future. It was likely that, having been partnered up once, they would be forced to work together again. Khan refused to be chained to a moron; if he was not allowed to kill her outright for doing wrong, then he was going to do his best to keep her from doing it. If that entailed rolling her on to her back and pinning her until she saw sense, then so be it. He maintained his position beside her as they crossed the street.
"Your attempts to insult me only detract further from my opinion of you." he replied. He noticed a pair of strays eating from a trash bin on the sidewalk. Grateful for the distraction, he paused, allowing Sinestriss to stroll past him. If she desired to ignore the affront their presence caused, he was more than happy to pick up the slack. As soon as the other Lux rounded the street corner, he began his work. He did not issue any commands to stop their rummaging, spared no growl or bark to warn them. Khan waited until the larger of the two looked over its shoulder, spotting him. Flattening his ears, he closed the distance between them in less than a second. He tackled the stray before it had a chance to react, crushing its head between his jaws like an eggshell. If it had been alone, he might have allowed a chase, but he couldn't afford much of a delay when there were multiple vermin to deal with.
In the time it had taken him to kill the first, the second, slightly smaller stray had already moved several feet away, sprinting in its panic. Righting himself, Khan began the chase. Any humans on the sidewalk quickly moved out of the way, recognizing the massive black dog as a Lux at work. They stared as he ran at an almost leisurely pace after his prey. Some looked on in awe, others covering their eyes or mouths in fear and shock. Khan allowed the other dog to go on for less than a minute, quickly tiring of the game. Narrowing his eyes and snarling, he pounced, the pair of them rolling twice before coming to a halt. The sudden impact had knocked the breath out of the both of them, but Khan recovered first. He moved into position over it. Letting out a small growl of triumph, he took its throat in his mouth and jerked his head skyward. The stray bled out within seconds.

Sin heard the noise, walking back to the male, seeing he took care of the strays. Rolling her eyes, she was still bloodied from the kill. Shrugging, she turned around, scanning the area, seeing a couple strays across the street. There were about four of them, all headed their way. Sighing, she stayed shoulder to shoulder with Khan, trying to seem more intimidating with another large dog beside her. The largest dog had his eyes locked onto her and charged. Standing still, she met his attack easily, grabbing his throat and killing him. Then the other three were on them, growling, she went into confrontation with the next dog.
This dog could fight and she was struggling, it was smaller and faster. Canines dug into her leg and she snarled loudly, pinning the dog beneath her. Reaching forward, her canines were just closing on the neck when another dog slammed into her. Sin tumbled, pinned beneath the mastiff above her. Being trained for this, she twisted, knocking the dog off, snapping it's neck in a second.
