The second her paws touched the forest ground, she knew this was the place. It was beautiful. Not only was the forest lush and green, but it opened into meadows and help the home of riverbeds and wildlife, everything the she wolf would need to settle down and finally end her traveling. As she paced through the grass, her head was held high, ears perked up onto her head and her amber eyes bright. She was finally free, finally able to end those hiking nights and sleeping days. No more feeding off of other canines kills and struggling just to get by. No, she was ready to become what she had only dreamed of being - an Alpha. The rabbit she had hunted earlier sat limp in front of her paws, her mind spinning so quickly with ideas. But, one seemed to stand out - camp. She hadn't picked out a den-sight yet, how stupid could she get?
The she wolf growled to herself and picked up the rabbit and once again, began walking. If she were going to have a pack, she needed to know the scenery, to know where everything would take place. Right now, she knew a hunting grounds, a settling place to relax, and the closest river bed, but she had not yet picked out a camp. Stupid! Eventually, the rabbit hanging from her mouth was causing her jaw to feel heavy. She had no choice but to set it down and bury it for later. Once her claws had scratched over it, covering it's scent from other predators, she traveled on. There was a bounce of excitement in her step - but truly, what was there not to be excited about? Her searching ended when she came across a large waterfall.
It was decent sized, falling from a valley above. What was surprising was that there was a shift behind it, a space big enough for even the largest wolves to squeeze through. Of course, Tribute couldn't help herself. She carefully guided herself along the smooth, stone path that led beside and inside what appeared to be a small cavern like cave. In the middle was a small pool of water where the waterfall had leaved through, but all in all, it was safe from the wind , rain, and whatever else winter could throw at them. The stone walls had large crevices, that if some moss was thrown inside would make great dens. There were plenty of them. This would be the perfect camp! A small yelp of joy and the she wolf raced out, almost slipping on the path that she had entered in. Now all she had to do was mark the borders, claim the land with a signature howl, and everything would be perfect!
It took quite a bit of time to mark the landscape. But, inside she had claimed enough hunting grounds to feed a large pack, enough water to get them by, plenty of extra territory, and a den-site that could not be beaten. Oh, yes, this was the perfect territory. Trotting to what she could only assume was the center of the territory, her paws danced with her obvious excitement. Raising her head to the sky, she let out a long, beautiful how. One that would warn anyone within 7 miles that this land was hers. And those that didn't hear, well they would smell it on the borderlines. This land was claimed, and it belonged to Tribute.
With the howling done and the land officially claimed, she traced her steps back to the buried rabbit. When she found it, she picked it up and brought it back to her new den, her new home, and waited for the pack mates to come to respond.
