i took the midnight train going anywhere
Name: Kora
Age: 3 years
Gender: Female
Species: Cocker Spaniel
Pack: Experimental
Pelt colour: Brown
Eye colour: Brown
Personality:
Kora is, fundamentally, a very sweet girl.
She is quiet and shy, but very sincere - sometimes painfully so. She seems to have no affinity for guile and deceit, and often, can never understand just why some creatures would lie, kill, or do something so morally wrong.
Insecurity is her one fatal flaw. Kora is so afraid of being alone, so desperate for companionship and for some attention, that she would do literally anything for anyone, as long as they are kind to her and shower her with just a little attention.
She can be quite self-deprecating, and can come across as quite meek. Kora is very grateful for any scraps of attention others throw at her, but is also very self-conscious of what others think of her. If she senses they are disapproving, she'll do her best to conform to their expectations of an 'ideal' canine.
She tries to be strong, to be true to herself, but fails, more often than not. Her shyness is crippling at times, and she tries to show others that she can survive out by herself in the wild, on her own.
However, her scrappy defenses quickly fall apart at the first harsh or disapproving word towards her.Summary: Sweet | Shy | Insecure | Sincere | Easily swayed | Desperate for approval | Longs for companionship
History:
Sometimes, it feels as though Kora has been cursed since birth. Nothing in her life has ever gone right.
Born prematurely, it was a miracle Kora had managed to survive at all. Her birth had serious complications, as well as implications - she survived; her mother didn't. Tiny and weak, it was fortunate that their pack had other nursing mothers willing to take the frail child in.
However, it was obvious that although she managed to pull through, it troubles were far from over. While the others were tumbling and growing, their bodies filling out, Kora was still very weak. Often, the most she could do was stumble a little after them, tiring very quickly, and watching, as the others left her in the dust.
Children, as all would know, can be the most cruel at times. She was relentlessly bullied, and spent her life striving to gain their approval, in vain.
To make matters worse, she had speech and language impairments. Kora sometimes stutters, but mostly when she's put on the spot, or is experiencing extreme bouts of emotion, be they fear, anger, or just plain nervousness. She has trouble, sometimes, expressing her thought and desires to others, as she struggles finding for the right words.
That doesn't mean she's less intelligent. Kora is intelligent - it was just that in her whole life, no one has been patient enough to stay with her and find out.
When she grew older, Kora was chased out of her pack. No one could be bothered with the poor girl any more, now she was old enough to fend for herself.
All her potential partners never lasted long, claiming that she was too needy, to clingy, always following them about. No one, perhaps, understood just how harsh each blow was to the young dog.
Eventually, desperate to find acceptance somewhere, she left. On that very day, she was caught. Instead of taking her to the pound, the humans took her to the labs.
Each day, she was injected and prodded, sometimes the treatments were so painful that all she could do was whimper pathetically into her paws. She saw some dogs - they grew stronger and bigger, becoming more arrogant and starting to push around the other dogs (like her).
Instead of that, Kora soon realised she was getting weaker and weaker. One day, after a human injected something into her eye - she realised that he left eye's vision became cloudy. It never cleared up again. It all came to a head one day, where she could no longer get up. She knew that that was the end. However, a kind human was her miracle. He stole her away, bringing her to the vet, then releasing her back onto the streets.
A second chance.
Her stint in the labs has left her weak as a pup. Her muscles soft and atrophied from disuse and illness, her senses blunted by the harsh chemicals from the humans.
She now has to learn how to fend for herself all over again. She has just started this journey. Still lonely, still empty, but hoping to find something more.
Could be love, could be friendship... but maybe herself, as well.
