looking for your crimes Dusk was falling fast, faster than she had anticipated. The temperature had dropped with the sun and Clarice knew that she wouldn’t get cold until she stayed still. Her coat did little to ward off the upcoming chill and at times she cursed her genes and John’s decision to move here. Sharp eyes scanned the deserted street. A member of Lustitia could happen upon her in seconds. It had been a stupid idea, going out looking for food alone. But she had to. Their group had grown in size. Her thoughts drifted toward the others. They were all strangers for the most part, but if Deuce trusted them so did she.She increased her pace, nails clicking on the cracked pavement.
Salvation lay in the motel ahead. If the electricity was working, she was sure the neon sign would be flickering. It was one of those side of the road motels that advertised having a TV, only to get a room and discover they had lied. The hole in the fence was easy enough to get through. The owner of the building had either forgotten or was too lazy to patch it up. A shiver jumped across her skin, and not because of the cold. A body was floating in the pool. Clarice couldn’t tell if it had once been human or dog, and gave it a wide berth as she squeezed through one of the front doors. The shamble of a lobby was silent and she walked forward, trying to catch the last of the light that spilled from the doorway. A sudden noise drew her away from her task of checking her corners and Clarice did what any sane person wouldn’t-headed toward the noise. After a few more steps into the shadows, she found the source of the disturbance. A dog like shape, too dark to make the facial features. It smelled male. The soft growl should be warning enough, but she added her voice to make her intention clearer. "Turn around slowly, state your business."

Ash ll 4 year old ll Decus ll German Shepherd
The night was a cold one, and being out here at that time of night wasn't safe. The Shepherd knew he had to get indoor somewhere and he knew just the place. Ash loved to explore, he had come across an old motel a few weeks ago, met with a dog, and went well on his way. But, now he needed shelter, and all the exploring had done him well - he knew plenty of places to hunt, to hide, and even places where the Lustitia canines sometimes hung around. He had a good head on his shoulders. Good enough to know that out of all those places, he was closer to the motel, and that was where he would stay for the night. As he began to follow the familiar path, he felt his paw steps grow heavy - he was getting tired. He had been well away from the pack lands all day, and now he was beginning to feel the burn.
When he felt like he couldn't walk any further, he had finally reached his destination. He snuck in through the all too familiar door and paced into the first guest room - the lobby. It was the neatest place in the house besides the stars, but he had learned his lesson with those. When he had gone to get a frightened dog a blanket, the stair had given out and he had been scratched deeply by the wood. He wouldn't be making that mistake again. Instead he began making his way to the once so beautiful, leather furniture. When he was about to make himself comfortable, a growl rang out behind him. He stopped, lifting his muzzle slightly to sniff the air. It was female and...Decus? He could sense the tension, but he kept his mouth shut before turning slowly around - following the command. When he turned to face the female, he gave a light grin.
"Can't make out your own packs scent, huh?" It was a teasing comment, but the light smile on his face and the glint in his eye told her he was just making a friendly comment. And hey, he didn't mind the company on a night like this.

looking for your crimes Clarice’s ears flattened, her bared teeth going from anger to an embarrassed smile. “I’m sorry. I’m still trying to get used to a pack scent.” She sniffed the air again, forcing her mind to remember it. She looked her paws for a moment before lifting her head again. His brown eyes shone with warmth and she felt at ease. “What brings you here? I was looking for food for the pack.” She figured there must be some rats or some other creature nesting here. There were no dry food handouts anymore.
A police siren wailed in the distance and Clarice turned toward it, her muscles bunching slightly. For a moment her ears twitched, listening for the familiar drone of human voices and whirling helicopters, but there was nothing but silence. She chided herself. He’s not coming back, Claire. Stop getting your hopes up. She shook herself to rid her mind of such gloomy thoughts, her badge thumping against her chest as an ironic reminder. It marked her as a former house pet and an easy target for a bitter stray. She knew she should get of it, but it served as padding between enemy teeth and her neck. Clarice padded up the chair and jumped up onto it. The leather creaked at the sudden weight. It was a comforting sound, and she could fool herself into thinking everything was alright now.

The canine calmed down just about right away and gave the Shepherd an embarrassed smile. "It's alright, we've all been there." He chimed back, laughing just a little bit to try and ease the embarrassment she must be feeling. He was just about to answer her when a siren wailed and she froze still, muscles bunching and he knew that look. He would have known it anywhere. He even gave a soft whine at the acknowledgment of it. Turning back to her just as she shook her head, he noticed the badge that hung around her neck. His eyes widened, could it really be? Another survivor that hadn't gone completely rogue? He bounced on his paws for a minute, the excitement of another almost too much.
Of course, she was an odd breed for the force, but that reaction, that badge, there was no hiding or getting around it. For a few moments, he watched as she jumped on the furniture, studying her coat, now understanding all the things that he had missed, all the tactics that showed her true colors of being on the force. "You were a police dog." The male finally got out, his voice hardly a whisper, his soft, brown eyes wide in astonishment. He hadn't seen another police dog for almost two years - not since he had escaped the kill cage. "You were a police dog." He barked, now it was louder, almost a howl. "What force?" The dog questioned, his upper body crouched so that his rump was in the air, tag wagging like crazy. "What did you do? Drugs, bombs, chases? Tell me!" Now it was a yip of pure joy. He was talking to another police dog!
