The Docks of Westover were nothing special, really. From her many trips to the area she'd gleaned that fishermen and ship-dwellers mostly came here to trade their rations of sea-creature meat and other material goods humans seemed to rely on for their daily lives. In fact, as a whole they were was a mess. Crates of all shapes and sizes lay scattered as far as the eye could see, lining both piers and boats alike, and the scent of fish and other sea-creature life was pungent here, even overwhelming at first. But there was something about the busy place that smelled of human smoke-sticks and salt that drew the little shepherd in on this particular afternoon. Mind you, Fawn was careful about it -- waiting until the normally bustling activity of the docks had died down to a more relaxing pace. It was around, or slightly after sun-peak when she decided to leave her city home and make for the piers just in time for sunset. After which, she'd chosen a particularly long and empty one to walk down to calm her nerves. She found she seemed to do that a lot these days. The young dog's nose turned to the sky, her eyes tracing a cloud as it moved slowly through the sky. She could only imagine flying up there. It would be beautiful. Her fur and ears would be pulled back against the wind, and she would dance among the clouds and pretend the horrible world below didn't exist. But dogs couldn't fly, and everyone knew that. "Unf!"Fawn was pressed face-first and (rather ungracefully) with her rear end hanging in the air. She had tripped over a loose plank in the old boardwalk, apparently. I suppose that's what one gets when fantasizing while walking. She thought dismally. Lifting herself up from the dusty plank-wood in order to brush herself off from the fall, she suddenly found herself face to face with -- another dog? Oh, of all the... The bewildered canine's racing heart felt as if it had stopped completely once she laid eyes on the other creature, for this was no ordinary dog. She was beautiful. Her eyes, eye, she corrected herself; shone as if it were molded out of the finest and brightest of emeralds. From her narrow muzzle, to her sleek and perfectly curved bodice, to her-- well... some things are best left unsaid. Fawn could have stood in silent awe for hours, were it not for her common sense catching up with her first. "Hello, I'm F-- I mean, I'm sorry. I-- um..." She stuttered incoherently. Stupid, stupid, stupid. What's the matter with you? Speak!
"I'm Fawn."

and in the end, hand in hand, we will get there The young coyote edged along with flattened ears. Her movements smooth and stealthy, she slunk along the back ends of the... docks, she think she heard one dog call it. The docks. Such a strange word.
Saffron had never been so close to a human before.
Of course, she had seen a few. Well, who hadn't really, with the strange, two-legged creatures popping up all over the place like ants. Or like hyenas when there was fresh kill to be found. Give them a caught-prey, and there would be thousands and thousands swarming over instantly.
Okay, perhaps she was exaggerating, just a little. They weren't that bad. Of course, it was just all the gawking she got when one of them spotted her in her home territory that really got on her nerves.
Kind of like her former pack, really.
With that single thought, her entire mood plummeted. Like a rock falling off a cliff, she thought dismally, a little sense of wry humour seeping through. It was the reason she left. All the staring, the whispering... it just got onto her nerve. It would have gotten onto anyone's nerves.
Okay, enough of that. Saffon shook her head, blinking as she looked around, still not used to the far narrower scope of the vision that her single eye provided. Shadows seemed to shift on her right, and though she knew it was nothing but her imagination, the coyote still swung her head from left to right continuously, eternally on edge.
The lack of sound sleep was also taking its toll on the slight wolf. Her limbs dragged on the floor, and more often than not, she felt as though she were trying to wade through water. She knew, too, that she had lost a lot of body mass. Her pelt clung to her ribs, downy fur doing nothing to hide the fact.
And... that was what brought her here. She had (again) overheard a couple of stray dogs talking, and apparently, the best place for food was here by the docks. People ate here and dropped pieces of food, or left them behind - slender, but easy pickings for a lone coyote who couldn't afford to be too fussy.
But now that she was here, Saffron wasn't sure if his words were real. There was absolutely no delicious scent of food, just the smell of salt and stale sweat. And now that she thought back, she remembered the dogs smirking at each other as she had slunk away.
Tail drooping miserably, her stomach growled restlessly, as she started to pace forward again. Saffron was very uncomfortable in this human-dominated environment, and she rather thought that she would have better chances trying to catch something small in the woods. It was just that her blind eyes made it so.. so damn difficult.
"Unf!"
Saffron jumped back in shock, glassy eyes widening as her back instinctively arched in a typical 'fight' mode. What-oh. She blinked, and uncommanded, she felt a bright smile blooming across her features, even as she turned her head shyly away, hiding her milky eye from sight.
Giggling, the coyote decided that the incoherent dog was no threat to her. Sitting down, she tilted her head, waiting for her to spit out her name.
"And I'm Saffron," she responded brightly. "It's really nice to meet you, Fawn. What are you doing here?" she queried, eyes stretching wide with disbelief that any sane mutt would voluntarily choose to come here.
"Um, d-do you mind if we move somewhere quieter?" Saffron asked, shuffling her paws, careful to keep her head tilted away. "It's just- there are so many humans!" she whispered loudly, as though imparting a grand secret.

"It's really nice to meet you, Fawn. What are you doing here?"Saffron, she said. Wait, was that not a spice that humans used to give flavor to their meat? Oh but it was lovely, and suited her well, for she even smelled as lovely as the flower from which it came. A perfect name for a perfect creature. And her voice -- like that of the angels themselves! Fawn could imagine falling asleep next to that voice as it lulled her into her dreams; yet at the same time it made her heart dance and leap for joy and her stomach flip and flutter as if it were inhabited by a thousand butterflies. Hold on, had she asked something? "Oh -- oh yes I, I was only looking for a bit of peace. As you were. " She replied with a nervous whimper, mentally cringing at her ill-placed words once again. “I don’t mind, though, I promise.” She quickly added. "Um, d-do you mind if we move somewhere quieter? It's just- there are so many humans!" Saffron whispered conspiratorially. "Humans. Right…" Fawn stood confused for a moment. It seemed quiet enough for her tastes (as far as her standards went) – then again, even as beautiful as she was Saffron didn’t exactly look the type to favor such conditions as she did. Not that it made much sense, really; Fawn did prefer busier areas, for it heightened her ability to blend in and cover her scent, and made it quite easier to hide among the crowds. Still, she felt it was her duty to please the lovely female, and she would not disappoint. Her head whipped around in search of someplace further from the small group of workers in the distance. No. Nope. Not there either. ”Ah!” She exclaimed beneath her breath, "Follow me, um, if you like." She gave her what she hoped look like a reassuring smile (which probably looked something similar to when she had problems digesting something she happened to come across in a dumpster) and trotted – no, walked, along the old wooden boardwalk. It was always best not to look too eager. Fawn stopped when she approached a rather ghostly and empty-looking ship. “Word on the streets is the humans don’t use it anymore, so I suppose it’ll do.” She scoped, spotting the wary look in her companion’s pretty green eyes. “It’s safe.” She promised gently. And though she was afraid to mention aloud how ghastly old and spookish the giant boat looked, she was slightly more frightened of losing her.

and in the end, hand in hand, we will get there Saffron tilted her head curiously at her new acquaintance.
She had a dreamy look in her eye, and appeared to be thinking of something very important, judging by that little furrow in her brow. It really was kind of adorable, Saffron mused, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
She hadn't met too many other dogs, but she did see a few German Shepards roaming about town. The coyote had decided to steer clear of them, for their teeth were big, and their growls fierce, seemingly constantly on the alert.
But this Fawn seemed different. Saffron already liked her.
With a mischievous chuckle, Saffron reached up from her smaller stature, swiping a soft paw at her nose, peering into those soulful eyes.
"You alright, Fawn?" she asked, eyes bright with laughter, previous hunger easily forgotten with the reappearance of company. "Cat got your tongue?"
She listened to her reply, nodding in understanding.
"Yes, peace seems to be a precious commodity around here, no?" she asked, grimacing a little. "I'm glad," she responded, with a soft sigh of relief. "I wasn't sure if you wanted company. And-that's great!"
Saffron jumped to her paws, frowning as her hind leg took her weight, but nevertheless, dutifully followed Fawn away from the busy port. She walked edgily, cowering from the humans that walked so close by they nearly brushed her pelt, before giving up all pretense of dignity and speeding up to catch up with Fawn, her pelt brushing the other canine's.
"Why aren't we moving faster?" she hissed, unnerved. "We're so exposed here!"
Saffron breathed a sigh of relief as an old, deserted human structure came into view. Quickly, she sniffed the air, then bounded into the cool, musty depths.
"This is amazing!" she exclaimed, eye bright with interest. "It's safe? I haven't been in too many two-legged structures, so I'll have to trust your word on it!"
She wandered further into the gloom, oblivious of the ominous creaking of wood below her tiny paws.
"How did the humans ever build something like that?" she wondered. "This is enormous!"
