It was a quiet, unusually calm morning. Dew coated the grass, giving it a wet and sleek look and dampening Tallulah's paws. The Groenendael was out, and her stomach was guiding her through the field. She had not eaten in what seemed like a week, but in reality, was only a couple of days.
The black dog stopped, lifting her head to sniff the air. No scents here. Tallulah groaned, her stomach growling a reply. "There has to be food somewhere," she whined. Tallulah sat back on her haunches, letting herself rest for a quick moment.
She was beginning to lose focus as her fatigue set in when a rustling enters her ears. Tallulah slowly climbs to her feet, ears swiveling crazily in search of the sound's direction. They locked on; the sound was coming from her right. Tallulah carefully began to stalk in the sound's direction, keeping her footfalls light and her head down. She scented the air again and found the source - rabbit.
Tallulah froze, hearing the rustling even closer now. Her mouth watered, strings of sticky saliva hanging from her open maw. Up ahead, the tips of two long ears peeked over the grass. Her stomach grumbled louder, and the rabbit's ears lifted higher above the grass. No, no, no! It had heard her! The rabbit began a mad dash, attempting to flee her pursuer.
Tallulah lurched forward, her paws nearly slipping on the dewy grass as she began to sprint after the tiny rodent. She covered ground quickly, her legs now slick with dew and saliva from her jaws. However, the rabbit was faster, darting every which way in an attempt to shake Tallulah off. The dog sprinted as fast as she could, almost in reach of the rabbit. She leaned down and nipped the tuft of the rabbit's tail, and the rodent let out a terrified squeak.
Tallulah had her shot now. She could either leap and attempt to catch the rabbit, or give up and starve. Either way, there wasn't much in her favor if she decided to pounce. "Here goes nothing!" she growled. Tallulah leaped, jaws agape.
